Meals on Wheels, A Necessary Service
New Opportunities Inc. Meals on Wheels Program is currently faced with making significant reductions in meal services to elderly homebound seniors (age 60+). On February 1, 2023 cuts in funding allocations were made to our home-delivered meal clients. Meal services were reduced from 7 days per week to 5 days per week. On March 6, 2023 meal services were reduced from 5 days per week to 4 days per week. A total of 438 homebound seniors have been affected by the recent cuts. It is more than just a meal! For majority of our homebound seniors it is the only source of a nutritious meal they will receive for the day. The meals we serve help our seniors maintain independent living, support healthy aging and help manage chronic medical conditions. Without funding, further cuts from 4 days to 3 days per week may become a reality as soon as June.
