Transportation Driver for the American Cancer Society
New Opportunities RSVP program is seeking to place volunteers with the American Cancer Society in Waterbury, Connecticut. Leever Cancer Center provides comprehensive cancer treatment and support for patients and their families. Transportation to and from medical appointments is an important part of the support system. The transportation component is a volunteer opportunity.
Volunteer drivers will pick up patients at their home, drive them to the appointment, stay with them during their treatment if the patient requests, and bring them home again. You may be a primary driver for an assigned patient that has many appointments. Many friendships have been started when a driver and patient found they have alot in common.
Skills required include:
- Fluent in English or Spanish
Must be at least 55 years of age, posses a valid Connecticut Drivers license and have a good driving record. Must provide your own vehicle.
