America Reads School Reading Volunteer

New Opportunities RSVP is seeking to place volunteers in local Elementary Schools to act as reading tutors for students in grades k – 3.

Are You 55+? Enjoy Reading To Young Children? Have we got a volunteer opportunity for you! Join The America Reads With RSVP! (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and help a child (K-3rd) to read at a local school near you! Research proves that caring volunteers working with students have the power to help children boost academic achievement and put young people on track for a bright future.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist children to read (a minimum of 2 hours/week) with literature, materials provided by school staff.
  • Follow school/program protocol regarding sign-in, policies as directed while volunteering.
  • Report volunteer hours in a timely manner.

Necessary Skills:

  • Enjoy being with children and have an interest in working part of team and individually.
  • Be able to read.
  • All volunteers are required to complete a New Opportunities RSVP Enrollment form. RSVP and the volunteer school station will provide orientation and training to members. Must have your own transportation.
