Subaru Share the Love Event helps deliver nutritious meals and compassion to Greater Waterbury’s seniors

New Opportunities, Inc. Meals on Wheels is proud to announce its partnership with Premier Subaru of Watertown this holiday season to help fight senior isolation and hunger, one Subaru at a time. Premier Subaru staff recently conducted a winter maintenance workshop at Waterbury Senior Center. In October Premier Subaru was a drop-off site and actively participated in the Waterbury Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Blanket drive that collected over 40 blankets for Meals on Wheels recipients. From November 19th thru December 16th, the Watertown dealership will be loading a trunk with holiday stockings filled with gifts by community businesses, schools and other organizations who participated in the “Be A Santa to a Senior Event”. The filled holiday stockings will be distributed to our most needy and isolated seniors during the holiday week.

“We are thrilled with our partnership with Premier Subaru of Watertown’; said Lisa LaBonte, Senior Nutrition Director. “Their support through the holidays have been uplifting for our senior recipients and the funds raised during the Share the Love Campaign have helped us to serve more meals to homebound seniors”

This local effort is part of Meals on Wheels America’s annual participation in Subaru’s national year-end Share the Love Event. For every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased from November 19, 2015, through January 2, 2016, Subaru will donate $250 to the purchaser’s choice of participating charity – one of which being Meals on Wheels. If customers choose New Opportunities, Inc. Meals on Wheels, the $250 will be given directly to the local Meals on Wheels Program. By the end of this year, Subaru and its retailers will have donated more than $65 million to charity through the Share the Love Event.

Local Meals on Wheels America Member programs, like New Opportunities, Inc. Meals on Wheels, that partner with Subaru retailers to raise awareness for the Share the Love Event are eligible to earn grants of up to $20,000.

“Subaru and Meals on Wheels have worked together since 2008, helping deliver more than 1.2 million meals, friendly visits and safety checks to America’s seniors,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO, Meals on Wheels America. “We are truly honored to be one of Subaru’s long-standing national charities for the eighth consecutive year. The substantial support generated through the Share the Love Event ensures that our seniors are not forgotten.”
