New Opportunities, Inc. is seeking volunteers to assist in the delivery of meals to the organization's homebound clients in the Southbury area.

New Opportunities, Inc. provides meals to those in need through its Meals on Wheels program, serving more than 650 seniors in the Greater Waterbury region, which includes approximately 35 in the Town of Southbury. Volunteers significantly benefit the community in which they live by helping those who rely on this service.

Volunteers can opt to assist in the delivery of meals as often as they choose, from volunteering to work a two-hour route once a month up to 2 hrs per week. Their effort is both needed and appreciated regardless of the time they're able to commit. Meals on Wheels customers are folks who rely on the nutritional meals New Opportunities, Inc. provides at minimal cost or donation. The value of the service a volunteer provides in helping to ensure these meals are delivered cannot be measured.

Likewise, the benefits to those who volunteer are considerable. Volunteers receive a pre-service orientation along with training. They also are provided recognition and documented outcomes for their services. Volunteering strengthens one's ties to the community and broadens their support network, exposing them to people with common interests, neighborhood resources, and fun and fulfilling activities.

And what better way to help a neighbor in need? A volunteer's efforts, whether big or small, make a tremendous difference to those he or she helps. Fundamentally, volunteering is about giving your time, energy and skills freely. The intangible benefits alonesuch as pride, satisfaction, and accomplishmentare worthwhile reasons to serve.
