LEAPS is a 24 week intensive employment readiness skills development program that combines the aspects of life and job skills development, with real-world work experience and a supportive job search.
During the first 12 week session individuals spend 25 hours per week in an interactive classroom setting developing employment readiness, life and job skills. This includes developing computer skills, financial education, setting career goals and completing a career interest survey.
Individuals who have not attained their high school diploma or GED are required to begin work toward their GED. Tutors are also available as a part of the program to assist individuals in developing the skills in math and English necessary to complete their GED.
During the second 12 week session individuals gain real-world work experience at New Opportunities In The Making facility. Individuals have the opportunity to build their resume while gaining experience in assembly and quality assurance roles within an actual production environment that supports regional manufacturers. Individuals also have the opportunity to attain certifications in computer skills and ServSafe – an industry standard for the restaurant industry.
During the third session individuals receive job placement support. Individuals are coached in resume development and interview preparation. Coaches and computers are also available to complete job searches and apply for jobs online. Individuals who find permanent employment positions also receive the benefit of ongoing job evaluations, mentoring and case management services from program staff.
If you are receiving Cash Assistance from Temporary Family Assistance, you may qualify for this program.
